College Football's Biggest Disappointments of 2007

#13 – Southern Miss forces Jeff Bower to resign

How do you reward a coach for 14 consecutive winning seasons? By forcing him to quit apparently. After leading Southern Miss to a 7-6 record, Bower resigned, a move that was shocking to players and fans. Based on his statements at his press conference, however, it was clear that the decision was not his. In 17 years as head coach, Bower had 15 winning seasons, four conference championships, and he had built Southern Miss into one of college football’s stronger mid-major programs. Golden Eagle boosters apparently thought he could do better.
