College Football Coaching Changes for 2008
College Football Coaching Changes for 2008

#17 – David Cutcliffe, Duke
Replacing Ted Roof (fired)

Duke hasn’t really been competitive in football since Steve Spurrier left for Florida in 1989. The program has suffered through 13 consecutive losing seasons and has not been to a bowl game since 1994. Cutcliff (right) is now the latest man strapped with the challenge of making Duke relevant on the gridiron. The former Ole Miss head coach put together a 44-29 record with the Rebels before being fired and subsequently hired as Tennessee’s offensive coordinator. Duke now gives him what he’s wanted for years: another shot as a head coach.

The new deal calls for the 57-year- old to be at the helm through January 2015, but does not include a salary increase for Tressel, who is already the highest-paid head coach in the Big Ten.
