VANDERBILT'S MEMORIAL GYMNASIUM...
... is clearly the most unique college basketball arena in the country. The Commodores don't have the best team or the most TV exposure, but this is not the RPI; we're voting on arenas here.

Opposing coaches complain about the raised court and blame it on Vanderbilt's numerous home victories over #1 ranked teams. The NCAA installed a raised court at Ford Field for the national championship game and you didn't hear any complaints.

Unlike the Ford Field layout, however, Memorial has ample space at the sides of the court. It is a MUCH SAFER layout than the mul!@#$%udes of arenas that have benches hugging the sidelines. I've seen players and coaches interfere with the action on court -- at OTHER ARENAS! That doesn't happen at Memorial.

Opposing coaches complain about the benches being at the end of the court. That alignment was set a long time ago at the request of Adolph Rupp who was so short he had trouble seeing the action from his seat below floor level on the side.

If the university builds a new arena, you can be sure the NCAA will require it be laid out similarly to every other arena. What is the glamor in that? What happened to our traditions and history?

Vote for individuality. Vote for Memorial Gymnasium!
