West Point Mom Falls Victim to an overly agressive "foul language detection engine"
I am thrilled that Army's Fight song won but wish that we could enjoy the victory without airing dirty laundry – there are clearly better venues to discuss our "internal" differences.
Having said that I can’t help but respond to the traffic below. While acknowledging my potential bias, (I have spent 17 years at West Point) I believe the West Point honor code is as strong as it has ever been. Has it evolved? Without question. Are we worse off because of the evolution? I respectfully submit that no, in fact, we are better off now than, for example, the dark days of the late 1970s. I strongly believe that some o f the new development aspects of the current system, particularly the incorporation into the process of a proven effective Honor Mentor Program (that typically involves a yearlong deployment in the enlisted ranks), are actually great enhancements. Regrettably Old Infantry is substantially correct. While the Honor Code remains, the comprehensive enforcement of it which brooked no exceptions has been mitigated. The vast majority of graduates find this disturbing.

Prove It
USMA mom -- I must have hit a nerve. Four generations of us have graduated from USMA. I know enough members of the faculty and staff there today to know about the cheating. Put your head back in the sand.

Proud USA Patriot
Unless you have visited West Point, spent a typical 16 - 18 hour day observing cadets and their very tough life including extremely difficult academics, military training, physical conditioning and sports and spoken with cadets and witnessed their amazing commitment, it is hard to convey the \"spirit\" of their USMA FIGHT song!

Integrity Still Reigns
Honor and integrity are still the norm at West Point. No one can detract from those hard working young people who will become the leaders of our military and this great Nation. As for the others, there are a few in every bunch...even in the days of yore. But here's the thing, it is up to those honest Cadets not to allow the bad apples to disparage the reputation of the whole. To date, they have been quite successful in separating those who do not meet the standard. For the very few who make it through, they do not last. The few do not define the whole.

Great School Living On Its Reputation
USMA used to have ethical standards and an honor code. "Honor" is just a word in the motto -- nothing more now. Cadets who lie, cheat and steal are readmitted --- especially if they are related to general officers. This is not the West Point of yore. Despite all the fine young people who go there, the Academy has let the honest cadets down by bending the rules for the bad ones. Shame on them!
