Berkeley, CA (Sports Network) - Jahvid Best rushed for a school-record 311 yards and four touchdowns, as the California Golden Bears defeated the Washington Huskies, 48-7, in Pac-10 play at Memorial Stadium.

Shane Vereen added 49 yards and a touchdown on the ground for Cal (8-4, 6-3 Pac-10), while Nate Longshore threw for 84 yards and a score on 5-of-10 pass attempts.

After the game, California accepted a bid to the seventh annual Emerald Bowl and will play a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference on Saturday, Dec. 27 in San Francisco.

Taylor Bean threw for 80 yards and a pick, as the Tyrone Willingham era came to an end at Washington (0-12, 0-9). Bean did rush for a touchdown for the Huskies, who wrapped up their first winless campaign in school history. Washington is the only team at the FBS level not to win a game this season.

After the game, Washington announced that Steve Sarkisian has been named the 23rd head football coach in the sport's 119-year history at the institution. Sarkisian, who is currently fiishing his second season as assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at the University of Southern California, will be introduced at a press conference scheduled for Monday.

It didn't take long for Cal to get started, as Best scampered 60 yards for a score just over two minutes into the game.

The Bears added to their lead late in the first quarter with a 23-yard field goal by Giorgio Tavecchio.

Best pushed Cal ahead 24-0 with a pair of touchdowns midway through the second quarter. His first touchdown run came from one yard away and his second came just two minutes later from 20 yards.

With just five second left in the first half, Longshore threw a six-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Morrah to give Cal a 31-0 lead at the break.

The Bears jumped out quickly in the second half, as Best went 84 yards for a touchdown just over minute into the third quarter.

The onslaught continued midway through the period with a Vereen two-yard touchdown run.

Washington finally got on the board late in the third quarter, when Bean rumbled two yards to paydirt.

Jordan Kay kicked a 36-yard field goal early in the final frame to give Cal a 48-7 lead.

The Bears racked up 549 total yards in the game and they also did a solid job on defense, forcing four turnovers and holding the Huskies to just 200 yards.

The Huskies, who have dropped 14 straight games dating back to last season.
