Top-25 clash features Blue Devils against Tigers

Clemson, SC (Sports Network) - Top-25 foes meet in ACC action this weekend, as the seventh-ranked Duke Blue Devils tangle with the 17th-ranked Clemson Tigers at Littlejohn Coliseum.

The Blue Devils have had no success this season as a true road team, dropping all three of their away games thus far. The drought continued with an 88-74 loss at NC State on Wednesday, dropping Duke to 3-2 in ACC play.

The Tigers find themselves in similar surroundings, as they fell to 3-2 with Tuesday's 66-64 setback at Georgia Tech. The loss halted a three-game win streak for Clemson. The Tigers have won nine of their 10 outings at home this season.

Duke holds a huge 101-29 advantage in the all-time series with Clemson and is looking for the regular-season sweep after pounding the Tigers in Durham on January 3rd, 74-53.

Despite the loss in Raleigh this week, Duke remains one of the favorites in the ACC, as the team has really played well at both ends of the floor. The Blue Devils are shooting a solid .495 from the field this season, leading to a hefty 84.1 ppg, while limiting the opposition to a mere 62.6 ppg and under 40 percent shooting (.395). The team boasts of one of the conference's most productive backcourt tandems in Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith. Scheyer leads the team in scoring (19.1 ppg), assists (105) and three-pointers made (49). Smith is another threat from long range (.509 three-point accuracy), leading to 18.3 ppg. All-ACC forward Kyle Singler handles things in the frontcourt with 16.1 points and a team-high 7.6 rebounds per game. All three of Duke's conference wins this year have come by at least 20 points, so to get outplayed at NC State certainly wasn't expected. Singler led three Blue Devils in double figures with 22 points. Scheyer was right behind with 21, while Smith added 18. However, the team as a whole delivered on a mere 38.6 percent from the floor.

A pair of free throws with under four seconds to play was the difference for Georgia Tech, as Clemson fell by two points in Atlanta this week. Shooting just .369 from the field and turning the ball over 15 times were certainly keys to the loss as well. All-ACC forward Trevor Booker had a solid game, finishing with a near double-double with team-highs of 19 points and nine rebounds. Guards Tanner Smith and Demontez Stitt added 10 points apiece, but it wasn't enough. Much like Duke, Clemson has had great success at both ends of the court, averaging 77.2 ppg, while giving up just 62.7. Booker is the centerpiece, as the big man is shooting a sizzling .546 from the floor and leads the team in both scoring (15.6 ppg) and rebounding (8.4 rpg). Stitt and Smith are complementary players in the backcourt, adding 11.2 and 10.6 ppg, respectively. Forward David Potter (6.7 ppg) and center Jerai Grant (6.2 ppg) round out the starting five, while guard Andre Young (8.1 ppg) is a key reserve off the bench.
