General News Virginia suspends Landesberg for duration of season |
Richmond, VA (Sports Network) - The University of Virginia has suspended leading scorer sophomore guard Sylven Landesberg for the remainder of the season for failure to meet academic standards.
"Sylven has failed to live up to his academic obligations and will not play in games for the remainder of the season," Virginia head coach Tony Bennett said. "This is a very difficult decision. There are standards and expectations that Sylven and every player in this program now and in the future must uphold. When they are not upheld, there are consequences."
Landesberg also leads the Cavaliers in assists and minutes played, averaging 17.3 points, 2.9 assists and 4.9 rebounds in 32.1 minutes per game.
Virginia is 14-15 this season with a 5-11 mark in conference play after a loss to Maryland at home earlier Saturday. The ACC Tournament kicks off on March 11th.
