Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - The 14th-ranked Washington Huskies will try to cap off a perfect showing in the Athletes in Action Classic tonight, as they host the Portland State Vikings in Seattle.

Washington, the host of this four-team, round-robin event, has taken care of business as expected, winning their first two games. The defending Pac-10 champions opened the tourney and their season with a 74-69 win over Wright State before coasting past Belmont, 96-78, last night. The Huskies will have a few days of needed rest before returning to play on Friday against Saint Jose State.

As for the Vikings, they are 0-2 already and things aren't going to get any easier tonight. PSU got the tourney and its season underway with a 74-67 setback to Belmont on Friday prior to dropping a 75-70 decision to Wright State last night. The team was obviously competitive in both games, but was unable to give new head coach Tyler Geving his first victory since taking charge of the program.

For the all-time series, Washington is a perfect 8-0 against PSU, with each game being played in Seattle. Last season, the Huskies had to hold off a late rally from the Vikings for an 84-83 win.

PSU trailed 39-24 at the half before rallying within four points in the final minute against WSU last night. The Raiders though, sealed the game with five free throws in the last 29 seconds, sending the Vikings to another loss. PSU made 10 three-pointers for the second night in a row, but it wasn't enough to overcome WSU's 54.9 percent shooting performance from the field. After scoring just nine points in the opener, Melvin Jones erupted for 23 points, as the junior transfer went 7-of-11 from long distance. Julius Thomas posted 15 points following a 16-point effort against Belmont, and Domonic Waters chipped in with 11 points. Waters led the team with 17 points and seven assists in the opener, but was just 3-of-9 from the field with only one helper last night.

Quincy Pondexter led three 20-plus point scorers with 25 last night, as the Huskies defeated Belmont. One of the team's top returning players, Pondexter completed a double-double by grabbing 11 rebounds and he was also a perfect 11-of-11 at the foul line. Isaiah Thomas and Matt Bryan-Amaning also turned in noticeable performances, as they each finished with 23 points and seven boards. Thomas, the 2009 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, is a star in the making and he showed that last night, as well as in the opener, when he poured in a career-best 30 points in the win over Wright State. The Huskies have made a living at the foul line over the first two games, going a combined 52-of-64.
