General News No. 23 Aggies welcome Cowboys to College Station |
College Station, TX (Sports Network) - The Oklahoma State Cowboys face their fourth straight ranked opponent tonight, as they tangle with the No.23 Texas A&M Aggies in a Big 12 bash at Reed Arena.
The Cowboys have defeated four nationally-ranked teams this season and their most notable win came on Saturday, an 85-77 upset of then top-ranked Kansas. It was the program's first win over a No.1 team since knocking off Oklahoma in 1989, as OSU all but locked up a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Winners of four of the last five outings, OSU is now seventh in the Big 12 standings at 8-6, just one game out of third place.
One of the teams OSU is trailing for third is TAMU, which is 9-5 within the conference. The Aggies have played two straight Top 25 opponents, and their 74-58 win over Texas on Saturday knocked the Longhorns from the rankings. It marked the team's 14th win in 15 home games.
As for the all-time series, OSU holds a 30-13 advantage over TAMU and that includes a 76-69 triumph in the first meeting of the season on January 27th.
The Cowboys shot a blistering 60.4 percent from the field, including a 10- of-19 performance from long distance, as they upended Kansas over the weekend. James Anderson continued his terrific campaign with 27 points and eight rebounds in the win, while Matt Pilgrim tallied 18 points and six boards. Obi Muonelo finished with 17 points and Keiton Page had 15 points on a perfect 4- of-4 shooting from downtown. On the campaign, Anderson is very much in the running for Big 12 Player of the Year honors, as he leads the conference in scoring with a healthy 22.6 ppg average. Muonelo, a 44.1 percent three-point shooter, is a distant second at 13.5 ppg and Page fills out the list of double-digit scorers with 10.8 ppg.
TAMU held Texas to just 36.8 percent shooting from the floor, while controlling the boards, 40-29, in a victory this past weekend. The Aggies, who went 7-of-12 from three-point range, also scored 23 points off 13 Texas giveaways. Donald Sloan led the charge with 19 points and four helpers, while David Loubeau posted 15 points and seven rebounds. On the campaign, Sloan paces the Aggies in scoring at 18.1 ppg and he shoots 36.5 percent from beyond the arc. Bryan Davis chips in with 10.0 ppg and he is by far the team's best rebounder, ripping down 8.0 rpg.
