General News Tennessee dismisses two of three involved in robbery |
Knoxville, TN (Sports Network) - Two of the three Tennessee football players involved in last week's attempted armed robbery have been dismissed from the team.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reported Monday that Mike Edwards and Nu'Keese Richardson were kicked off the team, while fellow freshman Janzen Jackson will not be allowed to participate in team activities until head coach Lane Kiffin receives more information about his role in the incident.
All three players were arrested Thursday morning in Knoxville on charges of attempted armed robbery, charged after an early-morning incident at a gas station near the edge of campus.
According to the News Sentinel, three men were sitting in a vehicle at the station when one man in a black hoodie opened the driver's side door and, with a handgun, demanded money from the trio. Another man in a black hoodie opened the passenger side door and made the same demand.
The victims told police they showed the two men empty wallets and a third man told the other two they had to leave the scene.
Police located the car the three victims said fled the scene and found Jackson, Edwards and Richardson with a woman driving. An air-powered pellet gun was found in the car, as were two black hoodies and a marijuana grinder, which the driver said was hers.
