Georgia Tech QB Shaw to transfer to Georgia Southern

Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - Georgia Tech's back-up quarterback Jaybo Shaw will transfer to Georgia Southern at the conclusion of the current semester.

Shaw has been Georgia Tech's top backup for the past two seasons. In 2008 as a true freshman, he completed 15-of-24 passes for 321 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in seven games (one start). Shaw also rushed 63 times for 200 yards and three scores that season.

The six-foot, 191-pounder saw limited action last year due to a broken collarbone suffered in an August practice.

"I have mixed feelings," Shaw said. "I am excited to go to Georgia Southern and play for Coach Monken, but sad to leave Georgia Tech, my teammates and the fans. I appreciate everything Coach Johnson has done for me.

"While I will have the opportunity to compete for a starting role, a part of my decision is academic related. I want to get my college degree in education, which is offered at Georgia Southern."

Since Shaw is transferring down from an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) school, he will not be required to sit out a season. Thus, he will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Yankee Stadium bowl to be called Pinstripe Bowl

Yankee Stadium will be the host for the new Pinstripe Bowl starting in 2010.
The new college football bowl game to be held at Yankee Stadium starting in 2010 will be called the Pinstripe Bowl, with New Era as the title sponsor.

Last September, the Yankees announced the bowl game that will feature teams from the Big East and Big 12 conferences. The leagues have a four-year agreement in place, as does New Era.

The inaugural edition of the contest will take place December 30. It will be the first college bowl game in the Bronx since the Gotham Bowl on December 15, 1962, when Nebraska topped Miami-Florida, 36-34, at the original Yankee Stadium. ... Continue
