Former Hurricane QB Marve transfers to Purdue

West Lafayette, IN (Sports Network) - Former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Robert Marve announced Thursday he is transferring to Purdue.

A redshirt sophomore, Marve will have to sit out the 2009 season, adhering to NCAA transfer rules, but will have two years of eligibility left starting in 2010. Marve redshirted as a true freshman in 2007 and started 11 consecutive games for Miami-Florida during 2008 campaign after taking over under center two games into the season.

"Number one, we are really excited to have a player the caliber of Robert become a Boilermaker," Purdue head coach Danny Hope said. "We became a better football program today. His recruitment the last couple of months was a major story, not just at Purdue but nationally. He could have gone to any of a number of the best schools in the country."

Marve was granted his release from the school in December 2008 after reportedly butting heads with coach Randy Shannon. It was reported at the time that Shannon placed strict stipulations on the release and would not let Marve play for any ACC or SEC team, or any school in Florida.

The relationship grew strained following the regular season, when Marve was suspended for the Emerald Bowl due to academic reasons. Jacory Harris played the whole game under center and Shannon announced that Harris would be the starter heading into spring practice.

Marve split time with Harris throughout the season, completing 116-of-213 passes for 1,293 yards and nine touchdowns with 13 interceptions.

Purdue finished 4-8 last season with a 2-6 mark in Big Ten play.
