Bucknell hands football reins to Susan

Lewisburg, PA (Sports Network) - Bucknell University named Joe Susan its next head football coach on Wednesday.

Susan has over 30 years of college coaching experience and becomes the 26th head coach in school's storied program dating back to 1883. The 54-year-old takes over for Tim Landis, who resigned last month to take a position on the staff of fellow FCS program San Jose State.

From 1981-1990 Susan spent time serving as both assistant head coach and offensive line coach at Bucknell before moving on to Princeton (1991-99), Davidson (2000) and most recently Rutgers, where he served the last nine years as offensive line coach, while adding tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator to his resume in 2003.

"I am thrilled for our student-athletes and football program to be able to welcome Joe Susan and his family back to Bucknell," said Bucknell director of athletics John Hardt. "His 30-plus years of successful experience in college football have prepared him exceptionally well to lead our program and reestablish the winning traditions of Bison Football. Through his student- focused approach, Joe has demonstrated an ability to recruit and mentor top- notch student-athletes at all levels of college football."

Susan's lone previous head coaching position came in 2000, when he led Davidson to a 10-0 record, the only unbeaten team in school history and a single-season record for wins. In his time at Princeton, Susan held the dual title of offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

Bucknell is coming off a 4-7 season under Landis, who spent the last seven seasons guiding the Bisons.
