Rebels expected to have easy time in clash with Gents

Oxford, MS (Sports Network) - The 20th-ranked Ole Miss Rebels will attempt to remain unbeaten at home this afternoon as they take on the Centenary Gents in non-conference action.

Three consecutive defeats have caused Centenary to fall to 4-5 overall. The Gents were most recently in action last Saturday against Louisiana Tech, and that game resulted in a heart-breaking 102-96 loss in double overtime. Centenary is a member of the Summit League, and the club has split its two conference games thus far.

Ole Miss enters this clash with a 9-1 record, which includes a perfect 5-0 mark in Oxford. The Rebels needed overtime to defeat UTEP on Wednesday, as that game ended in a 91-81 final. The team's lone loss occurred on November 22nd against national power Villanova in a neutral-site affair. Clearly, Ole Miss has the talent to compete in the loaded SEC.

The Gents and Rebels have split their previous 12 meetings, and Ole Miss crushed Centenary by a 107-67 final during the 2005-06 season.

David Perez is clearly the go-to guy at the offensive end for Centenary, and he is pouring in 21.4 ppg. Roman Tubner is netting 13.9 ppg, and Daman Starring checks in with 10.7 ppg. Unfortunately, both Tubner and Starring are shooting under 40 percent from the field, and both players need to be more efficient at the offensive end for the Gents to climb above the .500 mark eventually. Centenary is scoring 81.8 ppg while allowing 83.4 ppg to opponents. In the disappointing loss to Louisiana Tech last weekend, Perez and Starring both had 19 points, while Matt Marseille and Jerald Bonham added 14 points apiece. The Gents were outscored 22-8 from the foul line and turned the ball over 20 times.

Ole Miss is racking 83.1 ppg this season while limiting foes to 68.3 ppg on 41.6 percent shooting. There are four double-digit scorers in the fold for the Rebels, and explosive guard Chris Warren leads the team with 19.2 ppg. Terrico White is netting 16.6 ppg, and Murphy Holloway checks in with 11.8 ppg and 7.3 rpg. Rounding out the foursome is Zach Graham with 10.0 ppg. Against UTEP last time out, Warren hit 13 free throws and finished with 32 points. White added 19 points, Graham posted 14 points, and Reginald Buckner pitched in with 11 points. The Rebels forced 21 turnovers in that clash and earned a 31-19 advantage in points from the foul line.
