Parker to return to Clemson football team

Clemson, SC (Sports Network) - Kyle Parker announced Wednesday he will return to Clemson to play for its football team for the 2010 season.

Parker, who helped Clemson's baseball team reach the final four of the 2010 College World Series, was selected by the Colorado Rockies with the 26th overall pick of this year's draft.

However, Parker said the only option he ruled out was playing baseball exclusively for the Rockies. He said negotiations will continue with the Rockies, but in the meantime he will play football for the Tigers.

"I am excited about this decision," Parker said. "I am ready to get back to Clemson, work out with my football teammates and coaches and get ready for the season. The closer you get to football season the more you think about playing in Death Valley, running down the hill and being a part of the Clemson football tradition."

In 2009, Parker led Clemson's football team to a 9-5 record and victory over Kentucky in the Music City Bowl. He completed 205-of-369 passes for 2,526 yards and 20 touchdowns, with 12 interceptions, in 14 games.

"We are very excited to have Kyle back," said Clemson head football coach Dabo Swinney. "Whenever you have a returning starter at quarterback who led you to the Atlantic Division title, that is a real plus for your team. He is dynamic athlete who brings a lot of positives to our offense."
