Meet Casey Pachall

You must be doing something right when you win a recruiting war for a quarterback when your competition is Florida and Notre Dame.  But that is exactly what TCU did.  That is right I said TCU.  That scrappy defensive team from "cowtown", went to Brownwood and pulled in one of the highest rated high school quarterbacks in school history.

Casey Pachall (Paw-haw) put up some big numbers in 2008. Including 2,700 yards passing, 600 yards on the ground, and 34 total touchdowns, all while keeping his interceptions to a decent 11 for the year.

Casey is tall but not a dominating figure on the field. At 6'4" tall he has the height that most coaches crave in a QB, but weighing in at 185, I can only guess Gary Patterson hopes that the "Freshman 15" catches him.  (He probably hopes for more like 20-25) Scout's have praised his arm strength and quick release.  But it's not just his arm.  He has great feet which can get him out of trouble when the pressure is on.

The knocks on Pachall have centered on his decision-making and risk taking. However, those are typically comments you hear when a team struggles as did the Brownwood Lions in 2008.  The 3-7 Lions would see their coach of 12 years Steve Freeman leave the program following the year adding to what had to be a frustrating year for the Horned Frog to be.

Once on campus Casey Pachall will be given the opportunity to study under Andy Dalton, but with a new offensive coordinator, Pachall could find himself learning a new brand of TCU football.

While TCU's history is rich with quarterback tradition that includes the likes of Sammy Baugh and Davey O'Brien, it may have once again become a home for gunslingers looking to take their act to the wild west.
