West Texas - Week 4 Predictions

The Prep Ticket staff looks at the region's most intriguing match ups this week and picks the winners and losers.

No. 5 Abilene vs. Burleson

District 3-5A play gets under way this week and the Eagles have a distinct advantage before the game ever starts. Teams from the Metroplex have not had to travel far for games historically, but the Elks are hitting I-20 and heading into West Texas this week. Abilene enters with an undefeated record and has seen its defense step up and almost posted a shutout last week against Tyler Lee.

Our pick: Abilene 35, Burleson 3

Abilene Cooper vs. Hebron

The Hawks enter the game with a misleading 1-3 record after losing to strong Metroplex teams Wylie, Mesquite and Plano before getting their first win of the season last week. Cooper, meanwhile, will be looking to end a two-game skid that caused it to fall out of the state polls and pick up a win in its homecoming game.

Our pick: Cooper 24, Hebron 21

Big Spring at Sweetwater

This is a game that features contrasting styles of offense. The Steers have started off quickly this year with three wins in their first four games using the spread offense. Big Spring also has at least five players who can run faster that 4.6 seconds in the 40. On the other hand, Sweetwater's going to play old-fashioned smashmouth football and did so to the tune of 358 rushing yards last week.

Our pick: Big Spring 24, Sweetwater 20

Clyde vs. Vernon

Clyde lost its first game of the season last week and will be looking to rebound this week. A strong defense for the Bulldogs will be key in forcing a couple of turnovers. Vernon uses the wing-T offense, but has not scored more than 14 points in a game this season.

Our pick: Clyde 13, Vernon 10

Ballinger vs. Roscoe

The Bearcats have struggled the last couple of weeks in losing to a pair of elite 2A schools in Cisco and Early. Ballinger has one of the quickest defenses in West Texas and will need to use the speed to its advantage. Roscoe, meanwhile, utilizes a spread offense and is averaging over 35 points per game.

Our pick: Roscoe 35, Ballinger 27

Last Week: 3-2, 0.600 percentage

Overall: 13-4, 0.765 percentage
