Week 6 Predictions - West Texas

The Prep Ticket staff takes a look at this week's most interesting match ups and picks the winners and losers.

Abilene vs. Weatherford, 1 p.m. Saturday

The Kangaroos have had a rough start to the season, but two weeks ago against Fort Worth Paschal, Weatherford knocked off the Panthers 42-30. The Eagles turned around and roughed up Paschal 81-3 in what was the fifth-highest point total in school history. This weekend won't be as lopsided, but it should be an easy homecoming win for the Eagles.

Our pick: Abilene 56, Weatherford 0

Abilene Cooper vs. Hereford

Both teams went 2-3 after playing brutal non-district schedules this season before taking last week off. Hereford coach Don Delozier, in his return to Abilene for the first time since serving as an Abilene assistant, will bring his spread offense attack led by quarterback Parker Bridwell. The Cougars, meanwhile, return to playing 4A competition after hanging in there with three straight 5A opponents in losses.

Our pick: Cooper 28, Hereford 21

Lubbock Coronado at Midland High

The Mustangs enter this week's game after splitting their first four District 2-5A games. Coronado has struggled against some of the quality teams in the district so far, a trend that could continue with their trip to the co-district leading Bulldogs. Midland, meanwhile, has not given up more than 24 points in winning each of their first four district games.

Our pick: Midland High 38, Lubbock Coronado 24

Midland Lee at Odessa Permian

The Rebels stumbled out of the gates, losing their first two games of the season. Since that time, though, Lee has won its last three games and is averaging 36 points per game. The Rebels are currently tied for third in district -- one game back of Midland High and Odessa Permian. Permian, has been firing on all cylinders this season, winning all five games by an average margin of over 30 points per game. The margin of victory jumps to over 36 points per game if only district games are included, which means the Rebels could be in for a long night.

Our pick: Odessa Permian 49, Midland Lee 10

Odessa High at San Angelo Central

The Bronchos will be looking to bounce back after losing for the first time this season last week, and will be doing it on the road against the winless Central Bobcats. OHS is led by junior quarterback Derrick Teegarden who has already broken the school record for touchdown passes in a career. Central has played one of the toughest schedules in the district so far, as the Bobcats five opponents are a combined 20-5 so far this season.

Our pick: OHS 42, San Angelo Central 7

Last Week: 5-0, 1.000 percentage

Overall: 21-6, 0.778 percentage
