Week 7 Predictions - West Texas

The Prep Ticket staff takes a look at this week's most interesting match ups and picks the winners and losers.

Amarillo High vs. Midland High

The Bulldogs hit the road for one of their longest trips of the season as they head to Amarillo. Midland High has rolled through the first half of district play, and looks to stay tied for the District 2-5A. The Sandies, meanwhile, are looking to remain tied with Midland Lee for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Our pick: Midland High 38, Amarillo High 14

Odessa Permian at Lubbock High

Permian has strolled through the first half of district play, and is 6-0 on the season and ranked fifth in the state by Prep Ticket. The Panthers have been rolling in all aspects of the game. On the other hand, the Westerners have struggled all year and remain winless. This week's game is a typical trap game that could produce an upset, but it's very unlikely.

Our pick: Odessa Permian 59, Lubbock High 6

Midland Lee vs. San Angelo Central

The Rebels have been solid in district play so far and come into the game averaging 338 yards of offense weekly, while the Bobcats post just 243.2 yards per contest. Lee has also put up 25 points per game this season, while the Bobcats have scored just 54 points all season long.

Our pick: Midland Lee 42, San Angelo Central 10

Odessa High vs. Lubbock Monterey

The Bronchos have been on a tear this season with their only loss coming to crosstown rival Permian. Odessa High has one of the most explosive offenses in District 2-5A, scoring more than anyone but Permian, while the Plainsmen have had problems on a semi-regular basis. Monterey uses an offense that grinds out drives, but the Bronchos have a quick-strike offense.

Our pick: Odessa High 31, Lubbock Monterey 17

Abilene Cooper vs. San Angelo Lake View

After a rough non-district slate, the Cougars came out roaring last week against Hereford, riding the legs of A'mon Pimpton to the win. In the Cougars first district game as a 4A program, Pimpton ran for a school record 306 yards on 30 carries. The Chiefs are led by first-year coach Sterlin Gilbert and have shown the ability to score points in bunches, putting up 38 points per game. This game could be close as Gilbert was on the Cooper coaching staff prior to heading to Lake View.

Our pick: Cooper 35, San Angelo Lake View 17

Last Week: 5-0, 1.000 percentage

Overall: 26-6, 0.813 percentage
