Prep Ticket 5A Top 10 - Week 9

The state's best teams have established themselves and with one week left in the regular season, most of these teams have playoff spots wrapped. And with the postseason looming, expect the action to get a little crazier as the match ups become more intense for the teams in this week's poll. (First-place votes in parentheses.)


1.  Euless Trinity  (4)  (9-0)


The Trojans looked primed for the playoffs, rushing and passing for more than 250 yards while holding Justin Northwest to less than 200 total yards in a 56-19 whipping

2.  Abilene  (2)  (9-0)


Running backs Herschel Sims and Zach Bass rushed for almost 330 yards combined and three touchdowns in clinching the District 3-5A title with a 48-28 win over Richland

3.  Galena Park North Shore  (7-0)


The Mustangs D did it again, holding Baytown Lee to 68 total yards in a 48-7 rout; North Shore has outscored its last four opponents 181-17 and held each to an average of 123 yards

4.  Allen  (8-1)


Quarterback Matt Brown was a one-man offensive machine, rushing for 165 yards and three touchdowns and passing for 203 and another score in the Eagles' 30-14 rout of Plano East

5.  Odessa Permian  (9-0)


Sherard Ray rushed for 200 yards on 19 carries giving him a Permian record for rushing yards in a season with 1,580 in Mojo's 36-8 victory over Amarillo Tascosa

6.  Beaumont West Brook  (6-0)


Running back Christine Michael fell seven yards short of 200 yards, rushing for 193 yards and three touchdowns as the Bruins gained 435 yards and pounded Baytown Sterling 41-23

7.  Pearland  (8-0)


The Oilers got 172 rushing yards and two touchdowns from running back Casey Carrier but it was the defense that saved the game, registering five sacks and holding Deer Park to three field goals in a 20-9 win

8.  The Woodlands  (7-1)


Lufkin's defense proved to be the difference in a tight game, holding The Woodlands to negative rushing yards in the second half and Daniel Lasco to just 50 yards in a 15-13 upset

9.  Plano  (8-1)


The Wildcats had the week off to try and repair a defense that has surrendered 87 points the past two weeks

10. Round Rock Stony Point  (8-1)


Running back Malcom Marks rushed for 167 yards and four touchdowns, helping the Tigers crush Vista Ridge 56-17 despite throwing just four passes from its vaunted spread attack

Dropped out: A&M Consolidated defeated No. 7 Copperas Cove 31-27
