Miller looking forward to being a Sooner
Quick and Smooth. Those are two words that can best describe Jonathon Miller of Garland Naaman Forest. And if you want to throw a third word into the equation, you can use the word Sooner.
The 6-foot, 180-pound running back is bringing his game to Norman after committing to Oklahoma. It did not take long for Miller to make up his mind, making the commitment during his junior year. After talks with running backs coach Cale Gundy, Miller felt OU was the place for him.
The Ranger's standout brings an impressive resume with him to Norman. Miller set a Garland ISD career record with 4,447 yards rushing and 52 touchdowns. During his senior year, he led Naaman Forest to a 10-5A district title with 1,881 yards rushing and was named the MVP by district coaches.
Scouts are impressed with Miller's skills. His 4.5 speed allows him to be quick to the hole and allows his blocks to set up before accelerating. Miller also has the ability to generate good north-south speed and could be a great change of pace back in the Sooners' offense.
Some feel his style is reminiscent of former Sooner and current Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson, which is interesting since Miller grew up a big fan of Peterson.
Miller will have a lot of competition for playing time in the Sooner backfield. DeMarco Murray, Chris Brown and Moses Madu are set to return. Plus Jermie Calhoun of Van and Justin Johnson of Gilmer are right behind them. But Miller is looking forward to competing at the highest level.
After tearing up opposing defenses throughout DFW, there is no doubt that Miller will be up for the challenge.
