Prep Ticket 4A Top 10 - Week 8

We're down to the final two weeks of the regular season and the playoff contenders are starting to show what they've got. Expect the competition to grow more fierce and upsets to pop up, like they did this week, a little more than usual the rest of the way. Check out this week's poll to see who finished Week 8 unscathed. (First-place votes in parentheses.)

1.  Lake Travis  (6)  (8-0)

Cavs took the week off and now appear ready to start getting even more serious to defend their state title; it doesn't hurt that Garrett Gilbert has thrown 30 touchdown passes and just one interception

Up next: vs. Dripping Springs, Friday

2.  Longview  (7-2)

The Lobos fought through a tough Hallsville squad to pull out a 21-7 win, getting 160 yards and two touchdowns on the ground from Tyler McCray

Up next: at Longview Pine Tree, Thursday

3.  Everman  (8-0)

The Everman D continues to dominate, holding its third straight opponent to a touchdown or less in last week's 41-7 victory over Joshua; running back Devin Woods ran for 99 yards and two touchdowns in the win

Up next: at Timberview, Friday

4.  Highland Park  (8-0)

The Scots were outgained in total yardage by Royse City yet still pulled out a 46-43 shootout victory; Bryan Dickenson carried the load for Highland Park, rushing for 200 yards and a touchdown

Up next: vs. Rockwall, Friday

5.  Dallas Carter  (8-0)

Carter needed just 90 seconds to score a pair of touchdowns on Pinkston and finished with more than 550 yards in its 62-0 rout

Up next: at North Dallas, Friday

6.  Wolfforth Frenship  (8-0)

The Tigers edged out Plaiview 20-17 but should be ready for their showdown with Cooper; Frenship leads District 4-4A in overall defense, allowing just 216 yards and 14 points per game

Up next: at Abilene Cooper, Thursday

7.  Rockwall-Heath  (8-0)

Brad Howes kicked a 34-yard field goal to force overtime and the Hawks avoided a scare with a 56-49 win over Richardson Pearce; star running back Kendial Lawrence continued his torrid pace rushing for 312 yards and three touchdowns

Up next: at Carrollton R.L. Turner, Friday

8.  Aledo  (8-0)

Injuries or not, the Bearcats continue to plow through the end of their district schedule; Aledo got 150 yards on the ground and three touchdowns from running back Jonathan Gray as well as three defensive touchdowns

Up next: at Mineral Wells, Friday

9.  Kerrville Tivy  (7-1)

Quarterback Colton Palmer threw for 436 yards to help Tivy overcome it lowest scoring output of the season and three first-half turnovers to edge then No. 7 Cibolo Steele, who played without star running back Malcom Brown, 34-27

Up next: vs. Alamo Heights, Friday

10. Hewitt Midway  (7-1)

The Panthers are on a seven-game winning streak and rolling following last week's 56-31 demolition of previous No. 8 Ennis thanks to running back John Hubert's 221 rushing yards and seven touchdowns

Up next: vs. Waco, Friday

Dropped out: Kerrville Tivy defeated No. 7 Cibolo Steele 34-27, Hewitt Midway defeated No. 8 Ennis 56-31

Others receiving votes: Texarkana Texas High
