Cy Springs Star Williams Sticking With Marquette
There is excitement at Marquette these days. The 10th ranked Golden Eagles are soaring through the Big East. Things get even better as one of the top small forwards in the Lone Star State says Marquette is the place for him.
Cy Springs forward Erik Williams committed to Marquette prior to the 2007-08 season. The 6-foot-7, 190-pounder says he wanted to stay with that commitment despite former head coach Tom Crean?s departure to Indiana because of everything the school stands for and has to offer. He also says that he felt confident that current head coach Buzz Williams would do a great job at Marquette. Looking at the way the Golden Eagles have been playing you can?t argue with that.
Williams is averaging about 22 points a game for Cy Springs, who are heading to the playoffs this year. That is an impressive feat considering how much Cy Springs was struggling earlier in the season. But Williams turned it on and now they are playoff bound.
Coaches love the fact that Williams runs the floor with ease and is a good three-point shooter. He also has the ability to finish above the rim in transition and makes good decisions when the ball is in his hands. Williams has also shown the hustle needed to compete in the Big East, hitting the floor for a loose ball or drawing tough fouls.
Williams is considered a skilled combo forward and could possibly end up as a big 3-man. He plans on arriving on campus this summer to start his career at Marquette.
