Update on Hurricane Hopeful A.J. Highsmith

Fort Bend (TX) Hightower is on the verge of history. The Hurricanes are Class 5A Division I state finalists for the first time and one of the main reasons why is the play of their dual-threat quarterback, A.J. Highsmith.

Highsmith, the son of former Miami Hurricane and NFL star Alonzo Highsmith, has been delivering all year for Hightower. His stats are simply amazing; over 1900 yards and 27 TD?s through the air and 290 yards and 6 TD?s on the ground. Highsmith is anything but one-dimensional.

But it is his leadership in big games that have Hightower thinking state title. In their 28-7 semifinal win over San Antonio Clark, Highsmith completed key pass after key pass before hitting Darius Johnson with a short pass that turned into a 22 yard score to tie the game at 7. Soon after, Highsmith guided a seven-play drive that was capped with an 11-yard TD run, and Hightower never looked back.

Highsmith may soon exchange his Hightower Hurricane uniform for a Miami Hurricane uniform. He has committed to Miami, but has yet to set up a Cane visit date and says he may also visit Oklahoma State.

He is not only listed as a quarterback prospect but a defensive back prospect as well. Word is that he will start out at quarterback at Miami, but his athletic abilities allow him to play other positions if needed.

But for now, Highsmith has one more game on his mind before his high school career ends and college one begins. He would love nothing more than to have a state title in hand before jumping to the next level.
