Thompson talks OU

FT. WORTH -- Oklahoma commit Tyrus Thompson showed an outstanding upside during the recent Nike Training Football Camp held on the campus of Texas Christian University. Thompson is a 6-5, 279 pounder who has tremendous athleticism and footwork. He also has long arms, which all those combined, has all the ability to make it at the next level.

Thompson tells us that one of the reason he has comiitted to the University of Oklahoma, is because he has was told that he would have a good shot at seeing some early playing time. Oklahoma, as we all know, alos has a good football tradition, which Thompson was impressed by.

The coaching staff at Oklahoma also told Thompson there was a chance that he would get to play on the defensive side of the ball, but quickly told us that the chance of that was slim, which is just fine by him. He also mentioned that the school would meet all of his needs academically.

Thompson does have one more year at Pflugerville high, and says that his team as a good shot of making some noise in 2009. The first goal is for the team to win district, if they can accomplish that, then that would give them plenty of confidence to make a deep playoff run.

Thompson says going up against a guy like Alex Okafor in practice has defenitely helped him develop as an offensive lineman. Facing him on a daily basis showed Thompson himself that he can make it at the next level, he just has to keep pushing himself every day and show up.
