Fomer Cy-Fair star Sam McGuffie set to transfer to Rice

Houston, TX - According to multiple NCAA officials, former Cy-Fair star and Michigan tailback Sam McGuffie is expected to transfer to Rice.

McGuffie made several visits to Rice during the Owls preparation for the Texas Bowl. Despite reports that Texas A&M appeared to be odds on favorite for his services, McGuffie apparently opted to instead go with Rice.

McGuffie wanted to transfer closer to home and Rice became more attractive after winning 10 games this past season. Many feel the spread offense the Owls run will take advantage of McGuffie's speed and athleticism.

One of the more decorated recruits from the 2008 signing class, McGuffie rushed for 5,847 yards and 83 touchdowns at Cy-Fair. He signed with Michigan despite having second thoughts on his commitment. McGuffie had over 800 all-purpose yards and 4 touchdowns for the Wolverines, but decided to transfer following his lone season in Ann Arbor.

According to NCAA rules, McGuffie must sit out the 2009 season and will be a sophomore in 2010.
