Prep Ticket Class 4A Top 10 - Week 3

Things got back to normal in the majority of the state this week, and with three teams in the top five on a bye this week, there was little shake up in the poll. District play gets underway this week for several teams, so as the stakes go higher and we move on in the season we unveil this week's top 10. (First-place votes are in parantheses.)

1. Lake Travis  (6)   (4-0)

Garrett Gilbert's masterful performance against Shreveport (La.) Evangel Christian, 405 passing yards and five touchdowns, just shows how scary the Cavs can be when they are on a  roll; Lake Travis heads into district play averaging 36.5 points per game

Up next: vs. Killeen, Friday

2. Everman  (3-0)

Bulldogs got a week off to sharpen their teeth before their district opener; Everman outscored its non-district foes 104-32 which doesn't bode well for winless Seguin

Up next: at Arlington Seguin, Friday

3. Highland Park  (3-0)

A well-deserved bye week was exactly what the Scots needed to fine tune an offense that has been staggering this season; Highland Park is averaging 48 points per game despite breaking in 10 new offensive starters this season

Up next: at Carrollton Newman Smith

4. Texarkana Texas High  (3-0)

The Tigers have defeated two of the best teams in Arkansas and had an extra week to prepare for their East Texas showdown with No. 5 Longview; will it be enough to slow down the Lobos

Up next: at No. 5 Longview, Friday

5. Longview  (3-1)

The Lobos strength of schedule is unmatched in the state and that hard road certainly helped Longview rally from a 20-7 halftime deficit to Class 5A power Lufkin 45-37 and get ready for a showdown with Texas High

Up next: vs. No. 4 Texas High, Friday

6. Dallas Carter  (3-0)

Led by quarterback Jarvis Phillips and running back Anthony Miller, the Cowboys come off their bye week averaging 311 rushing yards per game and show little signs of slowing down

Up next: vs. Dallas Adamson, Friday

7. Port Lavaca Calhoun  (2-0)

A second-consecutive bye week thanks to Hurricane Ike should have the Sandcrabs more than ready for their district opener against a Rockport Fulton squad that has won three straight games

Up next: vs. Rockport Fulton, Friday

8. Sulphur Springs  (3-0)

Quarterback Tyrik Rollison threw for 355 yards and four touchdowns, rushed for 48 yards and two touchdowns and helped lead the Wildcats past Mesquite Poteet 56-21

Up next: at Longview Pine Tree, Friday

9. Schertz Clemens  (3-0)

Big second half from running back Charles Ross (touchdown runs of 70 and 24 yards) helped him rush for 165 yards and help the Buffaloes survive a shootout with high-scoring Beeville Jones; may need a similar effort with defending district champ Alamo Heights on tap

Up next: at Alamo Heights, Friday

10. Friendswood  (1-0)

Like several Houston area teams, Mustangs have gone two weeks without a game and district opener against Texas City could be cancelled, moved or re-scheduled sometime this week

Up next: vs. Texas City, Friday

Dropped out: No. 5 Abilene Cooper lost to Garland 28-14

Others receiving votes: Cibolo Steele, Wolfforth Frenship, Waco, Aledo, Sherman
