Stony Point's Mims No Longer Unknown

Tevin Mims flew under the radar for most of the season. That all changed for the Round Rock Stony Point star after Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp invited him to a bowl practice.

Soon afterwards, the 6-foot-4, 240-pound defensive end became the 20th verbal commitment in Texas' Class of 2009 when he gave Mack Brown the official word this past weekend. Texas jumped in and indicated a couple of weeks ago that an offer would likely come Mims' direction after he made an official visit over the weekend. Mims was also being looked at by Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Kansas and Arizona.

Mims had a sensational senior season which included a dominant stretch of play in the state playoffs. That helped Mims emerge as one of the fastest rising recruits in Texas and is ranked the No. 16 player in the state in the final Lone Star Recruiting Rankings.

As a senior, Mims recorded 54 tackles and 14 sacks for Stony Point. His wing span and natural movement caused numerous pass breakups and quarterback pressures. His play reminds many scouts of Alex Okafor, especially the ability to dominate games and basically become unblockable. Plus many feel Mims has the intangibles needed to only get better.

Despite starting the season as an unknown, Mims has the ability to make himself a household name at Texas for years to come.
