East Texas - Week 3 Predictions

The Prep Ticket staff looks at the region's most intriguing match ups this week and picks the winners and losers.

No. 5 Abilene vs. Tyler Lee

The Eagles enter Friday night coming off a thrilling 20-13 win over their crosstown rival in a game that was decided by goal line defense. The Red Raiders, on the other hand, had no problems in blowing out Dallas Kimball, scoring early and often in a 59-0 win.

Our pick: Abilene High 35, Tyler Lee 14

Gilmer at Kilgore

The Buckeyes have been putting up astonishing statistics this season in averaging nearly 54 points per game and are coming off a 28-14 win over Liberty-Eylau. Kilgore, meanwhile, is coming off a 28-18 loss to Marshall last week and looking to rebound with a solid performance in its first home game in three weeks.

Our pick: Gilmer 52, Kilgore 14

Lufkin at No. 7 Longview

The Panthers have a stingy defense that is led by Jamarkus McFarland who is one of the top three high school seniors in the nation. The Loboes are coming off a 52-22 win over traditional power Evangel (LA) Christian, a last minute replacement game due to Hurricane Ike.

Our pick: Longview 14, Lufkin 13

Jacksonville at Palestine

This is a game in which somebody will pick up their first win of the season. Jacksonville's been close on one occasion, while Palestine lost 35-21 to Van last week.

Our pick: Jacksonville 7, Palestine 3

Wichita Falls Rider at John Tyler

The Raiders have struggled out of the gate this season with a pair of close losses to traditional 5A power Cedar Hill and also Sulphur Springs. The Lions, meanwhile, had no problems posting a big win last week, but will need to contain Shavodrick Beaver to get the win.

Our pick: Rider 31, John Tyler 20
