Week 6 Predictions - East Texas

The Prep Ticket staff takes a look at this week's most interesting match ups and picks the winners and losers.

Tyler Lee at Mesquite

Tyler Lee's had a rough first half of the season, dropping games against 5A powers Lufkin, Longview and Abilene to go with wins over Kimball and Flower Mound Marcus. The Red Raiders are scoring 21.6 points per game, a number that is severely inflated due to the 59-0 win over Kimball. Mesquite, on the other hand knocked off Lufkin two weeks ago and is led by senior quarterback Luke Halpin who has thrown for 1,208 yards and nine touchdowns this year.

Our pick: Mesquite 28, Tyler Lee 17

Mesquite Horn at John Tyler

Mesquite Horn has not shown an ability to stop opposing offenses this season, giving up an average of 41 points per game, including two games of 60 points or more. John Tyler, on the other hand, dropped its first two games this year, but has rallied back for three straight wins as its offense has started to get on track and rolling.

Our pick: John Tyler 49, Mesquite Horn 17

Longview vs. Mount Pleasant

The Lobos have been on a roll recently, winning their last five games by an average of 22.4 points per game en route to earning the No. 2 spot in Prep Ticket's Class 4A state poll. Mount Pleasant has had a pleasant schedule to this point of the season, but is hitting a brutal three-week stretch with games against Longview, Texas High and Sulphur Springs.

Our pick: Longview 42, Mount Pleasant 10

Sulphur Springs vs. Texas High

Sulphur Springs is coming off its first loss of the season last week, but has a potent offense that can keep it in the district race. The Wildcats are averaging over 40 points per game and have a stingy defense. Texas High, on the other hand, is only 3-1 on the season and has only played once in the last three weeks.

Our pick: Sulphur Springs 49, Texas High 28

New Caney at Lufkin

Both teams have had their season plans changed as a result of Hurricane Ike and are finally getting back into a routine. Since returning to the field two weeks ago, the Eagles have dropped a pair of games to Cleveland and Baytown Sterling. Lufkin has dropped three consecutive games since taking the field the week after the hurricane.

Our pick: Lufkin 24, New Caney 17

Last week: 2-3, 0.400 percentage

Overall: 14-10, 0.583 percentage
