Rider's Shavodrick Beaver heading to Tulsa

Wichita Falls, TX -  Shavodrick Beaver of Wichita Falls Rider is following his heart, opting out of his commitment to Michigan to instead play at Tulsa.

The multi-talented quarterback chose the Golden Hurricanes after head coach Todd Graham made a house visit. Beaver said one of the main reasons he picked Tulsa was that he felt they had more to offer. He also said he wanted to go somewhere close so his family and friends could see him play.

Beaver had a wild senior year, passing for 895 yards and six touchdowns. His season was cut short when he tore his labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder against Denton Guyer back in October. The injury did require surgery, but Beaver is expected to make a full recovery.

Beaver has already graduated from Rider and will attend Tulsa for the spring semester. He plans on majoring in criminal justice.

He is the second high-profile quarterback the Golden Hurricanes have landed the past year. G.J. Kinne of Gilmer transferred to Tulsa after spending a year at Texas. Kinne sat out this past season because of the transfer, but will be eligible to play in 2009.

Meanwhile, Beaver is also the second prized recruit that Michigan has lost recently. Former Cy-Fair star Sam McGuffie is planning on attending Rice after playing one year in Ann Arbor.

Beaver's commitment is only a verbal one. He is not allowed to sign a letter of commitment until Feb. 4.
