Prep Ticket State Top 10 - Class 4A

The 2008 season kicked off with Highland Park making history, Lake Travis and Everman surviving tough tests and four ranked teams losing right off the bat. So as we enter Week 1, we unveil our new Class 4A top 10. (First-place votes are in parentheses.)


1.  Lake Travis (6) (1-0)


Defeated Round Rock Westwood 27-20 behind Texas commit Garrett Gilbert's 312 passing yards and three touchdowns

2.  Wichita Falls Rider (1-0)


Michigan commit Shavodrick Beaver and Co. will start the season with a serious test against a speedy 5A power

3.  Everman (1-0)


Ryan Smith rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown to help Bulldogs avoid upset against Waxahachie with 14-12

4.  Abilene Cooper (1-0)


33-0 victory over FW Wyatt tempered by scary injury to offensive lineman Patrick Angus

5.  Highland Park (1-0)


Quarterback Luke Woodley passed for 354 yards and five touchdowns to get Scots historic 700th win in 45-26 victory over Red Oak

6.  Texarkana Texas High (1-0)


Receiver Cobi hamilton exploded with six catches for 206 yards and three touchdowns in 42-14 rout of 5A John Tyler

7.  Dallas Carter (1-0)


Former 5A power breaks into poll after holding Lancaster to 161 yards of offense in 21-6 romp

8.  Kerrville Tivy (1-0)


Quarterback Colton Palmer threw for 324 yards and four touchdowns in 49-28 win over 5A San Antonio Roosevelt

9.  Waco (1-0)


Opportunistic Lions ride defense, turnovers as five different players score in 35-6 drubbing of San Marcos


Up next:  at Copperas Cove, Friday


10. Longview (0-1)


Gained 345 yards, but was done in by opportunistic Allen in second half of 21-7 loss between 5A and 4A state-ranked teams


Up next: vs. Tyler Lee, Friday


Dropped out: No. 4 Lamar Consolidated lost to Texas City 26-21, No. 7 Stephenville lost to Aledo 24-21, No. 10 Mans. Timberview lost to Buford (Ga.) 42-21
