Girls State Tournament -- Day 2

AUSTIN -- The second day of the state tournament is under way at the Frank Erwin Center and Prep Ticket has the information on your favorite team.



Class 5A Semifinals
DeSoto 56, Naaman Forest 48: DeSoto rallied from a 12 point deficit to advance to the state title game behind a team high 17 points from Keandra Goodson.

Cy-Fair 60, Wagner 41
: McDonald's All-American Nneka Ogwumike had 16 points, but her sister Chiney stole te show with 20 points as Cy-Fair rolled to an easy win this afternoon in the state semifinals.

Cy-Fair exploded for 28 points in the opening quarter and never looked back in the romp.


The Lady Bobcats finished the game shooting 46 percent, while holding Wagner to under 30 percent.


Cy-Fair roared out to a quick start and led by as many as 23 points late in the half and its pressure defense forced 18 turnovers in the game, resulting in 21 points. Cy-Fair also held the edge on the boards, outrebounding Wagner by a 35-28 margin.


Chiney Ogwumike finished with a double-double as she had 12 rebounds to go with her 20 points.


Sajoyia Griffin led Wagner with 11 points in the season-ending loss.


Cy-Fair advances to play the winner of tonight's DeSoto-Naaman Forest game.

Class 2A Semifinals


Poth 54, Woodville 42: The Pirettes advanced to tomorrow's 2 p.m. state championship game against Jim Ned after overcoming a slow start to pull away from Woodville this morning in front of 4,126 fans.


Poth had pulled out to a 18-point lead early in the fourth quarter before allowing Woodville to make the final score respectable. Poth shot 38 percent from the field while holding Woodville to just 32 percent shooting.


Woodville did manage to outrebound Poth by a 38-37 margin.


Kasey Harlos had a game-high 14 points while Kelsey Titzman and M'Lis Kilgore each added 13 in the win. Tia Barlow had a team-high 10 points for Woodville in the loss.

Jim Ned 55, Winnsboro 46: The Lady Indians from West Texas advanced to Saturday's Class 2A Championship with a win in a game that went back-and-forth.


Cassi Wright had 14 points for Jim Ned and Sam Wilson chipped in 13 more. Brittany Carter led Winnsboro with 12 points.


Jim Ned, which is ranked fourth in the state and has a 32-5 record, will face the defending state champion -- and second-ranked -- Poth (26-7) at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Dwyer leads Georgia Tech past Miami


Jonathan Dwyer rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns on ten carries.
Jonathan Dwyer rushed for 128 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Georgia Tech rolled up 472 yards on the ground in a 41-23 romp of 23rd-ranked Miami-Florida.

Quarterback Josh Nesbitt ran for 93 yards and a score for Georgia Tech (8-3, 5-3 ACC), which beat the Hurricanes for the fourth straight time. Georgia Tech now has a lead over the Hurricanes in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Despite being atop the division and having already finished their conference schedule, the Yellow Jackets are not guaranteed a spot in the ACC title game. North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Virginia are all 3-3 and all three hold the tiebreaker over the Yellow Jackets with head-to-head wins earlier in the season. ... Continue
