San Jose State coach Tomey to retire

San Jose, CA (Sports Network) - San Jose State head football coach Dick Tomey will retire after the conclusion of the season.

The school will hold a press conference at 4 p.m. (et) Monday to make the announcement.

The 71-year-old Tomey is finishing his fifth season at the helm of the Spartans and his 29th overall as a head coach of a major college program.

San Jose State is 1-8 this season and has three games left, at home against Hawaii and New Mexico State before a contest on December 5 at Louisiana Tech.

Tomey has a 182-143-7 record, having also coached for Hawaii (1977-86) and Arizona (1987-2000). He had a contract with the Spartans through the 2010 season.

Michigan to host first night game at Big House


Michigan will host Notre Dame the night of September 10, 2011.
The University of Michigan announced Thursday it will host its first-ever primetime game on September 10, 2011 against rival Notre Dame.

'This will be an unprecedented game day atmosphere that our fans have not experienced at Michigan Stadium,' said Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon. 'It's a great opportunity to showcase our program, university and Ann Arbor to a primetime viewing audience. This also adds a new chapter to the storied rivalry between our two great programs.'
