Longview shuts out Tyler Lee 21-0

Afrer losing the season opener against Allen last week, the Longview Lobos (1-1) were anxious to make amends by winning their home opener against Tyler Lee (0-2). It took the Longview offense a half to find its rhythm but thanks to a strong performance from the defense they were able to pick up their first win of the year.

Although the passing game sputtered for the most part, a strong running game led by Da'Cedric Hunt, Tyler McCray and Jonathan Oliver finally got the Lobos over the hump. After a scoreless first half, Longview came out on fire in the second half.

A nice drive led to a Lobo TD with 5 minutes left in the third, followed by a 30-yard interception for a TD by junior defensive end Alonte Darden in the fourth, making the score 14-0.  The defense shined all night, shutting down Lee RB Da Da Brown, and the Lobos also got interceptions from seniors Chris Knighton and Lamarcus Howard.

Longview capped off the night with QB Aaron Johnson juking his way to the goal line on a 20-yard scamper.  With two minutes left, Lee had all of its timeouts left, but declined to use them, running the clock out. The win gave the Lobos their sixth straight victory over the Red Raiders.
