Boerne advances to state
SAN ANTONIO -- The age old theory that defense and free throws wins games in the 4th Quarter was never more evident than Saturday's showdown between Boerne and Brackenridge.
The Greyhounds broke open a close game in the 4th Quarter with fundamentals. With fouls mounting heavily on Brackenridge, Boerne took advantage at the free throw line hitting 16 of 21 shots, while Brackenridge struggled, going just 3 of 16 from the line. They finished 8 of 24 for the game.
Boerne meanwhile did an excellent job of handling the full court pressure defense from Brackenridge. "I thought we did a great job of staying composed. Their defense was stifling at times but we stayed under control" Boerne Head Coach Stan Leech said.
The Greyhounds got 3 different players in to double figures. Robert Moore led the way with 19 points while Daniel Rogers and Chuck Thornally chipped in 17 and 13 respectively.
Brackenridge's Pete Cardona led all scorers with 23 but the Eagles suffered a big blow when 6 foot 6 post Chris Johnson fouled out midway through the 3rd. An argument with the referee's earned him a technical foul and a seat on the bench.
Brackenridge finishes the season with a record of 31-7. Now its on to Austin where Boerne (32-4) will join Ft. Worth Southwest, South Oak Cliff and Wheatley in the final four.

The Blue Raiders have been mediocre at best offensively, racking up a pedestrian 343.1 total ypg, which has led to an average 22.4 ppg. The majority of the team's success has come from the pass, as MT is producing 241.6 ypg through the air, and out of the 29 touchdowns scored by this unit, 16 have come via the pass. Joe Craddock has done a commendable job under center for the Blue Raiders, completing 63.4 percent of his passes for 2,435 yards. The quarterback comes into this matchup with 13 touchdowns and only six interceptions. In the recent contest with North Texas, the Blue Raiders tallied 489 total yards, and it was good enough for MT to roll to a convincing victory. Craddock had a solid showing, throwing for 251 yards and one score on 19-of-31 passing. Phillip Tanner, who has been inconsistent throughout the season, was the main source of production, as the tailback rushed for 159 yards and five touchdowns. ... Continue
