2010 Recruiting Now A Focus For Sooners And Longhorns
With the 2009 class all wrapped up, Both Oklahoma and Texas head into spring practice with national title aspirations. But for both programs, it?s never too early to prepare for 2010.
The commitments have started coming in for next year. For the Sooners, the Dallas-Fort Worth area has been a successful recruiting ground. That trend continues as they have received commitments from Irving Nimitz safety Eddrick Loften and Flower Mound Marcus defensive tackle Daniel Noble.
Loften says he knew the Sooners were a perfect fit for him and that he is sticking to his word. Noble was the first to commit. He said it had been on his mind for a while but after making a visit everything seemed right. Noble also said he wanted to get everything out of the way early so he can concentrate on his senior year.
Meanwhile, The Longhorns have been stockpiling on the talent in DFW. Out of their 10 early commitments, six are from the area. Three of those are from Garland alone, with all-around athlete Adrian Phillips, wide receiver John Harris and linebacker Tevin Jackson verbally agreeing to play in Austin. Another interesting commit is Graham quarterback Case McCoy, who is the younger brother of current Longhorn quarterback Colt McCoy. That leaves the possibility that a McCoy could be running the show for years to come.
Recently, Fort Worth Dunbar star Darius White made a visit to Austin. White, one of the top-rated receivers in the country, says he was impressed with the atmosphere there and had a good time. He did receive an offer but is not jumping at anything at the moment.
As the year goes on, more and more players will start to pick which side of the Red River they want to be on. It just goes to show that one of the biggest rivalries in sports doesn?t just take place on the field.
